CE Biotech companies gather forces during BioForum 2011

Date: 18.4.2011

On May 12th, during the Central European (CE) Forum of Biotechnology and Innovative BioEconomy - BioForum 2011 (venue: andel's hotel, Lodz, Poland) a meeting aimed at establishing an association of CE biotech companies will take place.

Bringing the association to life was the idea of Ferenc Darvas (President, ThalesNano, Hungary) and Ernő Duda (CEO Solvo Biotechnology, Hungary). Both Ernő Duda and Ferenc Darvas have enormous business experience in the biotech sector, and both have achieved significant success in biotechnology. Apart from leading their own companies, they also hold executive positions in the Hungarian Biotechnology Association. The meeting is actively supported by Bio-Tech Consulting, the main organizer of BioForum 2011.

In Central Europe, in countries like Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia there are over 200 biotechnology companies. Together, these companies are able to form an offer, which will attract the attention of the biggest biotech markets - USA and Asian. Another important aspect of the association is the joint representation of the region on biotechnology events, like BioConvention in the USA - this will allow the CE region to reach a 'critical mass' faster, meaning entering the global biotechnology market faster. Reaching this level by each company on their own, would take a longer time, and for some would be impossible to achieve at all. The association, as well as BioForum, will enhance and accelerate the cooperation among member companies.

The establishment of the association is important for CE biotechnology, because for the small to medium enterprises, the important thing is not to 'fight' the biggest players - because such a fight might turn out to be difficult and meaningless, but to enhance competitiveness and establish a healthy business relationship with the big players. The needs of the small companies are related to many aspects of business activity. Those needs include the importance of promotion, acquisition of licensing opportunities with significant business partners, acquisition of new clients. Many companies also require assistance in obtaining government grants for R&D, and to promote the company on industry trade fairs, to raise the visibility of the company on an international scale. The association, which will have an informative function as well, will help solve those and other problems - states Ferenc Darvas.

BioForum 2011 combines trade fairs, conferences, seminars and BioPartnering (direct B2B meetings) to create the best platform for establishing new biobusiness connections in Central European Region.
