Global Potato Conference 2008

(December 10-12, 2008)

Since then the overall scenario for research and development has markedly changed due to emergence of global issues like Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), genetic engineering, information and communication technology, sanitary and phytosanitary issues, trade relations and environmental sustainability.

Fluctuations in potato prices coupled with decreasing production and productivity growth rates under the changing environmental conditions have posed further challenge to food security especially in developing countries. On behalf of the organizers of the GPC-2008, I warmly invite you to participate in this global event and add value to the scientific discussion through lead papers, oral presentations or poster presentation. I do hope that your participation in the Conference will provide a unique opportunity for a wider dialogue and discussion on emerging issues and challenges of potato research and development in ever vibrant and competitive scenario in global agriculture.

The venue of the Conference will also provide an ample opportunity to experience our rich cultural heritage, and to interact with leaders in potato research, technology and trade. We look forward to meet you in the GPC-2008 you are invited at New Delhi.

About the Indian Potato AssociationIndian Potato Association was established in 1974 with its Headquarters at Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla (HP). Dr. (Late) Mukhtar Singh, the then Director, Central Potato Research Institute was the guiding force in conceptualizing the idea and giving it a concrete shape. Since then, the Association has been nurtured by many a stalwarts without whom the Association would not have attained the present heights. In the year 1999, the Indian Potato association crossed a milestone by organizing a Global Conference on Potato at New Delhi to celebrate its 25th Year jointly with Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla that also completed its 50th year. It was a memorable year for it as over 500 delegates including 85 foreign delegates shared their experience and ideas on the potato research and technology. The conference was acclaimed as the best organized conference in recent years both by national and international agencies.
