Ca' Tron di Roncade, Italy (May 19-23, 2007)
The course will include a general introduction to biosafety and risk assessment of GMOs, with reference to the biosafety regulation worldwide. As many countries are in the process of developing or implementing their national biosafety framework, this workshop aims to provide experience in the examination of scientific data submitted in environmental risk assessment (ERA) reports. First, a general background of the major concerns deriving from the deliberate release of GM crops will be given, then two case studies will be presented. Participants will be asked to actively participate in the evaluation of each ERA report, with the assistance of teaching personnel.
