York, United Kingdom (June, 13-15, 2012)
The thirteenth in a series of annual symposia in food science is jointly organised by The Food and Environment Research Agency (Fera), UK, and the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN), University of Maryland, USA. Each year the symposium focuses on a different topic associated with state-of-the-art food science and technology. The topic of the 2012 event is "New developments in food science: realising the potential of ‘omics' technologies".
Genomic, proteomic and metabolomic technologies are rapidly developing, enabling capabilities (or resources) in biological sciences that will have far reaching impacts in the food and agricultural science sectors. The Symposium aims to explore the potential applications of these technologies in a variety of areas relating to food and sustainable crop production. It be held in York, UK, in June 2012 and will bring together industrial, academic and government scientists to explore the present and future impact of ‘omics' technologies in food science.
International speakers with a broad range of expertise and perspectives will describe research and lead discussion that will demonstrate the profound changes that ‘omics' technologies can deliver in their respective sectors. The symposium will be supplemented by consumer, policy and regulatory perspectives relevant to the food industry.
