Downstream processing

Downstream processing means relatively wide scale of processes that in fact treat basic material (very often fermentation broth) to final product or some kind of active compounds. In principle can be mentioned harvesting (separation of producing organisms, cells and so on ) and different steps of product purification. In section they are not involved companies producing drugs and other products (as feed and food supplements) if their main activities are only formulation and packaging. Mentioned in introduction to section 4.2., majority producers couple fermentation or other processes with DSP
