Marine biotechnology can simply be described as the biotechnology of organisms from the seas. Thus we will consider manuscripts describing the molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, cell biology, and biochemistry of any marine or freshwater prokaryote or eukaryote. The journal also welcomes papers related to genome biology and genome technologies such as linkage mapping, QTL mapping, physical mapping, and comparative and functional genome analysis. Papers on biotechnological applications should address fundamental questions or demonstrate novel technical developments. Work on marine natural products will also be considered when it meets these criteria. The journal will publish articles describing innovative molecular techniques for the study and manipulation (including transgenesis) of marine and freshwater organisms or research pertaining to industrial applications (aquaculture/mariculture) of aquatic organism. However, methods papers discouraged unless the method has been used to produce new biological information on the system being investigated.
