Type of job: full-time
Starting date: flexible, earliest on March 1st 2014
We are seeking highly motivated students to join the Laboratory of Structural Virology (http://www.ceitec.eu/ceitec-mu/structural-virology/rg61) within CEITEC. You will be part of a program investigating structures of human viruses in different points of their life cycle. You will use X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy/tomography and molecular biology to determine three-dimensional structures of viruses in different steps of their life-cycles. The aim of the research will be to use structural information to develop anti-viral drugs.
The candidates must hold a Msc or equivalent degree in physics, chemistry, biochemistry, structural or molecular biology. Previous experience with protein X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, cloning, protein production, mammalian tissue culture, virus production and purification is a plus.
The positions are not associated with any teaching obligations.
You will work in a new research institute (http://www.ceitec.eu/) that is equipped with a state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscope Titan Krios, dual beam microscope Versa 3D and robotic equipment for crystallization and X-ray data collection. The group includes a technician to assist with routine laboratory tasks.
The operating language of CEITEC is English. The virology group is part of the Structural Biology Research Program (http://www.ceitec.eu/programs/structural-biology/) that includes researchers with expertise in X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, biomolecular NMR, CD-spectroscopy, and computational chemistry.
