The Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB, www.hbu.cas.cz) at the Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, seeks applications for 1-2 postdoctoral researcher positions in freshwater ecosystem biology.IHB carries out research in various freshwater ecosystems with main emphasis on man-made reservoirs. Labs and teams at IHB cover all aspects of freshwater ecosystems ranging from water chemistry to biochemistry, bacteria, protozoans, algae, zooplankton, fish and their predators (more info: http://www.hbu.cas.cz/?lang=en ). The fellows will participate in ongoing multidisciplinary research synthesizing the extensive, multi-level data currently available at IHB and will be encouraged to develop their own, cutting-edge research agenda building upon or extending current research activities.
Fellowship focus is defined broadly in terms of unravelling processes relevant for quantitative development of the fish communities (growth, abundance, population dynamics, consumption rates, species interactions), especially in altered environments. Potential topics include:
The position will involve mainly statistical and/or modelling work, which can be combined with fieldwork based on the profile and interests of the candidate. Extensive databases of long term quantitative ichthyological data will be available for analyses. The fellow(s) will join young dynamic team http://www.fishecu.cz/ including the possibility to supervise students from the University of South Bohemia and to collaborate with other modellers (http://kbe.prf.jcu.cz/en/david-boukal). Outstanding fellows will be given possibility to create their own workgroup.
