The University of South Bohemia is a state university founded in 1991. It comprises eight faculties and a university institute, namely the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Philosophy, the Pedagogical Faculty, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Theology, the Faculty of Health and Social Studies, the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters. The ninth body of the university is the Institute of Physical Biology in Nové Hrady.
We are a research university focusing mainly on natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. A significant aspect of the scientific research activities is close cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Recent surveys have shown the university to be most successful in science and research, lifelong learning, and its ability to focus on regional issues.
