In biology, phylogenesis is the structure of evolutionary relatedness among groups of organisms (e.g. species, populations), which is discovered through molecular sequencing data and morphological data matrices. The term phylogenesis derives from the Greek terms fylé denoting “tribe”; and the term genesis “birth”. Science examining the phylogenesis is called phylogenetics. Graphical representation of relationships between groups of organisms are phylogenetic trees.
